Case Study · Atlanta, GA · Specified

Lisa & Alex's bath, fixed without moving a wall.

One hall bath, one weekend of demolition, and a shopping list. Nothing moved: same tub, same drain, same door. The room reads twice its size because the surfaces stopped competing.

Bath render — white oak vanity, quartz top, brass fittings and a brass-framed mirror Concept

Concept

Three materials, and nothing else.

White oak, aged brass, white tile. Every decision in the room answers to those three, which is what keeps a small budget from looking like a small budget.

Bath render — tub surround tiled to the ceiling, brass rain head, fixed glass panel and a recessed niche Concept
Tile to the ceiling and a fixed glass panel — the one change that reads as a renovation.

The Move

Spend the money on the two surfaces you touch, and leave the plumbing alone.

Moving a drain in this house means opening a finished ceiling downstairs. The budget went to the vanity, the counter and the brass instead, and the tub stayed exactly where it was.

The framed newspaper stays, at the owners' insistence. It is the best thing in the room.
